Back in May the Large Munsterlander Association (Proposed) hosted its first mantrailing day for members in Cannock Chase. Charlotte and Twiglet share their experience of the day
Charlotte writes…
Sarah offers training to small groups of dogs and handlers using a well used piece of clothing belonging to the dog handler for scent work and high reward treat on completion of task.
This encompasses one person hiding a distance from the group of participants and then the dog is presented with the persons scented item and taught how to track the scent with the help of trainer to find hiding person.
The four participants Victoria & Ginny, Sarah & Linkon, Jo & Morgan, Charlotte & Twiglet took turns to take part, with Sarah the trainer encouraging along the way.
All four dogs and handlers spent four hours really seeing the dogs understanding the task and becoming very confident by their fourth go. A great time was had by all in the cool shade of the trees.
