Year in Review report: Secretary

It’s with real pride that we sit down to reflect on the past year of the Large Munsterlander Association (Proposed). What a journey it’s been. From a spark of an idea to what now feels like a truly thriving and heartfelt community—this past year has been nothing short of remarkable.

When we first began shaping the idea of the LMA (Proposed), our goal was simple but deeply important: to create a space where likeminded people could come together, united by our love for this wonderful breed. A place that is inclusive, welcoming, and built around championing the Large Munsterlander in all its glory—whether as a working dog, a show dog, or a much-loved companion. We truly believe we’ve started to achieve that, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Events & Education

Over the past twelve months, we’ve hosted a diverse range of events that highlight the incredible versatility of our breed. From working days and mantrailing, to pet-owner focused meet-ups, deer tracking sessions, and health-focused webinars, we’ve offered opportunities for learning, bonding, and celebration.

A real highlight was our Show Handling Day, hosted by the incredibly generous and knowledgeable Nicole Coe, who gave her time free of charge. Nicole’s experience and warmth made the day a brilliant success, with a full card of attendees—including Munsterlanders, a Great Dane, and even a Griffon Bruxellois! It was especially valuable as pre-Crufts training, and we’re delighted to say we’ll be hosting another in the future. Nicole, we can’t thank you enough.

We’ve also had the privilege of working with recognised trainers, judges, scientists, and professionals, ensuring that everything we offer is based on experience, evidence, and best practice.

We were delighted that we held our first ever shootover day, with training provided by Paul Nixon at Upper Helmsley. A huge thank you to Sean and Vicky for hosting us and for Brad Dymond and Matt Ball as the guns.

Munsterfest

Our proudest moment this year was the launch of our first-ever Munsterfest. Blessed with sunshine and full of heart, the event brought together Munsterlander lovers from far and wide for a pedigree and novelty dog show, trade stands, a raffle, and most importantly—community.

Held to raise funds for the Air Ambulance charities in England, Scotland, and Wales, Munsterfest combined fun with purpose, and the turnout was incredible. The sight of so many happy dogs and smiling faces—some familiar, many new—made it a truly unforgettable day.

And we’re thrilled to say: Munsterfest is back again this year!
Join us on 10 August in Armitage, Staffordshire—we’d love to see you there.

Membership & Community

Our membership continues to grow, and with that growth comes strength. The LMA (Proposed) stands on strong footing:

Our core values are what set us apart:

  • To be inclusive and welcoming
  • To unite likeminded individuals
  • And to always champion the breed above all else.

We are creating something special here—something built on friendship, passion, and the shared belief that the Large Munsterlander deserves a voice, a community, and a future.

Get Involved

Whether you want to help at events, suggest future topics, or simply chat about dogs—please come and speak to us. You’ll always find a friendly face at shows, events, on social media, or at any LMA gathering.

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly excited to announce our first-ever Test of Work this August—a landmark moment for the association. This event will showcase the working talent and spirit of the Large Munsterlander, and we’ll be raising funds for Mind, a fantastic charity doing crucial mental health work. We truly hope you’ll support us, whether as a participant, volunteer, or cheerleader on the day. It means the world.

And as mentioned, Munsterfest returns on 10 August in Armitage, Staffordshire—please join us. It promises to be another joyful, tail-wagging day out for all.

Our aim remains to become the second recognised breed club for the Large Munsterlander here in the UK. We know it’s a big ambition, but one we are absolutely committed to. By continuing to work with our members, breeders, judges, professionals and The Kennel Club, and by maintaining high standards and transparency, we know we’re heading in the right direction.

In Closing

To every single person who has supported us this year—thank you. Whether you’ve attended an event, joined as a member, volunteered your time, or simply cheered us on—you’ve helped build something truly special.

This breed deserves a future full of support, understanding, and celebration. And that’s exactly what we’re creating.
