Adding a Munsterlander to your life

The Large Munsterlander, in the right home and with the right training can make an excellent companion or working dog. If the home, training, and early socialisation is right then it follows that the new owner will never regret the day that a Large Munsterlander came into their life.

A typical Large Munsterlander is an energetic family dog that bonds very closely with its immediate family. It can be trusted with children and with other dogs. It can also be trusted with cats and other livestock given appropriate sensible socialisation.

Living with a hunting dog

When considering the introduction of a Large Munsterlander into your home you should recognise three crucial elements that defines the breed: they are very high energy, very intelligent, and have a very high prey drive. Putting those three elements into one dog is an explosive mix.

With correct training and handling a new owner will come to love and appreciate these traits. Getting it wrong however - where the Munsterlander is allowed to make its own decisions about hunting - means the relationship between owner and dog becomes very stressful.
